Where I Ate as a Vegetarian Around Iceland’s Ring Road

Eating vegetarian while road-tripping around Iceland’s Ring Road can be challenging, especially when you’re passing through smaller towns with limited dining options. But I found some really great restaurants, cafés, and unexpected vegetarian-friendly stops along the way! From charcoal-crust pizza and vegan Icelandic hot dogs to Ethiopian food and cozy cafés, here’s everywhere I ate while exploring Iceland.

Vegetarian Road Trip Tip: Stock Up Before Remote Stretches

One of my biggest tips for vegetarians driving Iceland’s Ring Road is to stock up on snacks and backup meals whenever you can.

Gas stations can be surprisingly helpful! I recommend grabbing chia options and vegan sandwiches when available, especially before driving through smaller towns where vegetarian food can be harder to find.

Don’t assume every town will have a vegetarian-friendly restaurant open when you arrive.

Is Iceland’s Ring Road Vegetarian-Friendly?

You can absolutely explore Iceland’s Ring Road as a vegetarian, but a little planning goes a long way! I found everything from vegan hot dogs and Ethiopian platters to delicious pizza, pastries, and vegetarian-friendly meals at geothermal spas.

Some of my favorite food discoveries were in unexpected places, and having backup snacks made exploring the more remote parts of Iceland much easier.
